Supporting humanitarian relief and disaster management efforts is core to Microsoft’s commitment to develop technology solutions, tools, and practices that can foster social and economic change. Through partnerships with leading nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), international humanitarian organizations, and government organizations, Microsoft finds innovative ways to lend its expertise and familiar technology to help make communities more resilient in disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
In order for the Microsoft Disaster Response business unit to project a credible and unified image, it was critical that all communications (originating from headquarters or subgroups) take the form of one cohesive brand. Working closely with project stakeholders, we developed comprehensive visual identity guidelines in order to create a unique subtend look for Disaster Response, yet stay within the framework of the broader Microsoft brand.
Our subrand uses an angled ‘caution tape’ graphic to suggest the immediacy and importance of the subject matter. Guidelines provided an overview of the visual identity as well as naming conventions, appropriate use of color and graphic elements, and sample brand applications.
