Northwestern Magazine

Project Overview

Northwestern University looked to us to help combine student and alumni magazines into one new magazine, Northwestern, which would have a circulation of nearly one quarter million.

Our management of the design process included: research assistance, strategic planning, development of the look and format, digital prepress and printing coordination, fulfillment strategies and recommendations, as well as Northwestern staff training. We served as design consultants on the inaugural issue, and currently act as periodic art directors and designers.

In the client’s words
The creativity and vision of Pivot Design never ceases to amaze us. In all the years we’ve worked with Pivot, this firm has consistently produced award-winning designs for Northwestern magazine. Pivot Design redesigned the Northwestern University alumni magazine, Northwestern, about three years ago. The result was a classic, readerfriendly design that is very adaptable to the changing needs of the magazine. The redesign was very well-received by our alumni readers. ‘I never really bothered to read the magazine before,’ one alumna wrote about the new look. ‘Now it’s at the top of my stack of reading!’ Pivot has produced some wonderfully creative and clever designs for Northwestern magazine over the years. Pivot Design brings an energy and creativity to the table that is so positive. Many times we’ve turned to Pivot for help when we couldn’t do the job in our own design department. Despite tight deadlines and complex requirements, Pivot has always met the challenges we’ve thrown at them. We don’t really worry anymore if we suddenly need design help. We know that we can turn to Pivot Design.
